Problem with HDD storage after system wipe (Solved)

So i ran into some issues with my overclocking on my pc. Bluescreens, problem with booting etc. So I decided to set all to default and even reseted my cmos due to problem with booting. All went fine until I tried booting up into windows 10. "Problem has occured, one of your system files has been corrupted" specifically a few files in system32. Searched for a bit and came to the conclusion that wiping the disc and reinstalling windows was to be the fastest method of fixing this.

Everything worked and still is. The issue is that my HDD is still filled even though I have wiped it. I went on to really confirm this by trying to install most of all my past programs (which has all been uninstalled) and it fills up the disc even more. On my HDD I have 1 TB of storage and about 500 GB was to games and such. Before I wiped everything I had exact 140 GB left on my disc & when I wiped the HDD I still have 140 GB (120 now since I had to install some programs). How is this even possible? Is there some backup folder that backups everything? I mean its called "reinstalling" for a reason.

Just a random idea, go to "This PC" and type "size: " in the search box and choose gigantic or whatever the biggest option is.

Else use some cleanup app and see if you have any large temp files

Sounds like your hard drive is dying tbh, if nothing else works I'd get a new one...

Either that or you fucked up when wiping it with the partitions

Tried searching & also tried a cleanup program, but it didnt find anything worth several hundreds of GB :/

Yeah was kinda thinking that aswell. Well, if nothing else works I guess I'll just have to get a new harddrive. What kind of HDD would you recomend?

Maybe try following a tutorial and wiping it again (a few times) and creating a new partition.

When you did the Windows installation, did you delete and re-create the whole partition(s)?

And if you go for a new disk, go SSD!

Yes I did, as for SSD kinda too late now since I already ordered an HDD (Could't afford an SSD with 500 gigs or more). Will be getting it tomorrow but the same problem still remains with my current hdd. Guess its going to be a mystery huh

Check your HDD status with CrystalDiskInfo (https://osdn.net/dl/crystaldiskinfo/CrystalDiskInfo8_1_0.exe), post the status here. Check your SATA cable for loose connectors.

Also, where did you format your disk? Did you delete the partition and create a new one?

Could't afford an SSD with 500 gigs or more
You don't really need 500 gigs for your SSD, unless you have a really powerful PC which is capable of running games which are so heavy that they actually require to be installed on an SSD. In other games, the increase will be like 1-2 FPS, not more. Maybe some scenes in singleplayer games will be loaded faster, I donno.
There're only few of such games. For most systems, it's OK to have like 120 GB on your SSD which would cost you about the same price as a 1 TB HDD. No need to go for HyperX and other stuff like that, just buy a cheap one. An SSD is a great thing to have your system and programs on. When I didn't have an HDD, I could have the OS, programs, CSS and a couple of other games on it. And it still worked pretty well tbh.

Thing is that I need atleast 500 gigs for games & work documents. A 120-250 GB disc will not be enough for me whether or not its an HDD or SDD.

Looking at it, it doesn't look like it has issues, you don't have bad sectors and SMART is not saying anything too bad. Are you 100% sure you actually formatted the drive?

Yeah, I formatted the drive

Got my new HDD today, installed windows and all other apps without any issues. Won't try to fix the other one or try to find out what its mysterious problem was. So problem *kinda* fixed, I guess? yay moon2S
