Hello everyone!! I hope you all are in a good mood today! :D
Welcome to my guide, where I get to explain shortly about weapon binds, as in what they are, how do you bind successfully, and what weapons are the best to bind. Send this to the curious players who don't understand how to bind weapons for a better experience. Any feedback is appreciated in this thread.
I. Binds
They are shortcuts for your keyboard keys (or mouse buttons) where commands are executed at a single button press. Whenever I press "V", I get a P90 in need! You can execute as many binds as you want, however keep track of the actual keyboards that you want to use, otherwise you might overwrite existing commands as "W","A","S","D" (movement) ; "E" (+use/interact) ; "F" (flashlight) etc.
II. How to Apply?
All custom binds are executed through CONSOLE (`) which can be enabled through [Options] --> [Keyboard] --> [Advanced] --> [Enable Developer Mode]. Here's a short video on how to open the console.
Now, there are 2 ways to introduce your weapon (or utilities, like kevlar and grenades!) :
- Through chat messages (e.g. !p90 , !kevlar , !he , !ak , !tmp , !m249) . They work because they're a chat form of the commands from the plugin used. Usually worth if you want to also give your badass iconic lines while you use those binds. The command is : bind <key> "say !<weapon>"
- Through commands (e.g. sm_p90 , sm_kevlar , sm_he , sm_ak , sm_tmp, sm_m249) . They are the most recommended because the opponents don't see your messages (they never get to see when you get a new weapon), it's also easier in my opinion to combine with other commands, so you can optimize your binds. The recommended command is : bind <key> "drop:primary;sm_<weapon>"
<key> represents your keyboard key, and <weapon> represents the name of the weapon (or utility) for the command to work. If you type !ak47 instead of !ak, you will not get the weapon. The command drop:primary allows you to drop your primary weapon before you buy another one (which is also a primary weapon), allowing you to essentially switch instantly to your new rebought weapon without using the drop key "G" manually!
Make sure the names of the key and weapons match, otherwise it will not work! (e.g. bind v "say !p90" or bind v "drop:primary;sm_p90")
Make sure that after the key, you put the commands in quotation marks.
This is a short video on how to apply the weapon binds in the console using the recommended method.
III. Which weapons to Apply?
There are a tons of keys that the user can choose, but you want good accessibility for it! Well, the reality is that you have to choose your level of comfort with your binds.
The most used weapons (and utilities) for binds : Kevlar (MANDATORY), He Grenade (optional but useful due to versatility), P90 (most versatile hit based weapon), AK/M4 (popular and efficient damage based weapons), M249 (highest damage based weapon), TMP (most beginner-friendly weapon), XM (useful for maintaining position, shotgun that fires fast and reloads fast, what else can you ask for?)
IV. Extra
- The short term of "weapon binds" is rebuy. You would "buy again" the previous item bought previously, thus the term.
- Binds are not used for rebuying only. They can be used for pretty much anything, but we only care for things like : creating lenny binds or bhop scrolling!
- All of the commands (that can also include binds) usually appear in this directory : D:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Counter-Strike Source\cstrike\cfg\config.cfg .If you feel the need to check or reset commands, you can do it through this file or just resetting the settings to default.
